20 DISCOVERING TURKEY

The rough walls of the dark, narrow tunnel
scraped my arms. I was in a full duck-walk
position. My head continually bumped into
the rasp-like volcanic rock ceiling carved two
                           thousand years ago

      146 THE CALGARY STAMPEDE

I went to part of this 10-day annual rodeo
not because I have a secret wish to be a
cowgirl, but because this festival is consid-
ered the greatest outdoor show on earth.
       158 PUERTO VALLARTA FOOD TOUR

This past October we completed our first Holland
America cruise, 14 nights from charming Quebec City
to Fort Lauderdale aboard the Nieuw Statendam.

       168 YELLOWSTONE
There was a moment when I had doubts about
this expedition — traveling to Yellowstone
National Park in deepest winter. That was
when my wife disappeared in a snow drift.

      180 COOKING UP SOME MAGIC
Everyone in San Sebastian seems to be
                           crazy about food–Basque cuisine specifi-
cally. Even experienced travelers may find
it hard to get their heads around this cui-
sine savored in coastal northern Spain.
